This quick and easy homemade butter chicken is creamy, flavorful, and perfect for weeknight dinners. Made with simple ingredients and rich spices, it pairs perfectly with rice or naan.

  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs, cubed

  • 1 tbsp oil or ghee

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp turmeric

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp garam masala

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 1 tbsp grated ginger

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1½ tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • ½ tsp ground coriander

  • 1½ cups tomato purée

  • ½ tsp sugar

  • ½ cup cream or coconut cream

  • Salt to taste

  • Optional: cilantro, lemon, chili powder

Instructions

  • Cook chicken with spices in oil until browned. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same pan, melt butter and sauté onion until soft.

  • Add garlic, ginger, and spices. Cook briefly.

  • Add tomato purée and sugar; simmer until thick.

  • Stir in cream and cooked chicken; simmer for 5 more minutes.

  • Taste, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.
