2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup whole milk
1 to 2 teaspoons culinary dried lavender
1 cup unsalted butter for frosting softened
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract for frosting
Purple gel food coloring optional
Additional dried lavender for garnish optional
1. Warm milk and steep lavender for 10 to 15 minutes, then strain and cool.
2. Preheat oven to 350°F and line muffin tin with liners.
3. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
4. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
5. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
6. Alternate adding dry ingredients and lavender milk until combined.
7. Fill liners two-thirds full and bake 18 to 22 minutes.
8. Cool completely.
9. Beat butter for frosting, gradually add powdered sugar and cream.
10. Tint frosting, pipe onto cupcakes, and garnish lightly with lavender.
Use culinary-grade lavender only. Start with a small amount for subtle flavor. Chill frosting briefly if too soft before piping.
